The Intelligent Vehicle of the LMA, VILMA (an acronym from the Portuguese language "Veículo Inteligente do Laboratório de Mobilidade Autônoma"), is the leading platform of the laboratory for autonomous vehicles and ADAS projects.
The original vehicle platform, a FIAT Punto, was upgraded to full Drive-By-Wire (DBW) capabilities, enabling control of the steering, throttle, braking, and gearbox through VILMA’s embedded system.
First developed using ROS1, the automation of the vehicle was validated with a visual line follower experiment, available at: https://youtu.be/Iw2B6Frt0vU.
Currently, the vehicle is already updated to ROS2, and Autoware Core/Universe (https://autoware.org/) is being implemented as the navigation stack of the autonomous vehicle.
Altogether, V2X applications have been developed with VILMA, through a C-V2X/5G On-Board Unit (OBU) embedded in the vehicle, as a contribution to the Mover project: Rota Conectada.
